Dr. Hanawalt has selected Isiah Maxey and Yuliia Billa to serve as Assistant Conductors for the 2023-2024 Concert Season.

Conductor and baritone ISIAH MAXEY is a first-year doctoral student at the Florida State University (FSU) College of Music. He enjoys bringing creativity and innovative programming to the choral stage. Ensembles under his direction repeatedly received top ratings, including “Choir of Distinction” from the Florida Vocal Association. In 2022, Maxey was a Conducting Apprentice at the Berkshire Choral International in Barcelona, and was an Albert C. Yates Fellow at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he conducted the Tenor/Bass Choir, Juncta Juvant.

As a classically trained baritone, Maxey recently completed vocal fellowships with the DC-based professional ensemble, The Thirteen, and Spoleto Festival USA. His professional affiliations include membership in the American Choral Directors Association and National Collegiate Choral Organization.

YULIA BILLA is a Ukrainian soprano and conductor. She is a first-year master’s student in Music Education/Choral Conducting at FSU, and serves as Director of Music Ministries at Trinity United Methodist Church.
